I should get slapped for this, please forgive me. I’m finally going to update the blog about one of the best trips I’ve ever had with my favorite people. I’ll try to remember as much details as possible (with the help of photos throughout the trip).
Day 1 OTAKU DAY OUT
We went to Nipponbashi Den Den Town and Tsutaya, Dotonburi.
unofficial tour guide was just walking in front of us trying to find the way haha. We were hungry so decided to grab some food first, didn’t know what to get so we randomly walked in the nearest restaurant in that area. I don’t even remember the name of the restaurant anymore but the main dish that they served — Gyoza. Might I add, AMAZING gyoza! I’ve had good gyoza locally at Japanese restaurants before but this was just on a whole new level.
Continuing our journey after we ate, I actually forgot to take any photos as we were too busy shopping. We got quite a lot of stuff (for the first day of shopping) Will post the photo of me+Xan’s loot vs. JQ’s loots later below.
Random shot of us walking the streets before heading to dinner. We planned on going to Ichiran Ramen that night, but the moment we got there… We were completely overwhelmed by the crowd outside Ichiran. Instead, we went to another shop around that area for okonomiyaki #noregrets
We also had to queue for that but it was a much shorter line. While waiting, I took a couple of snaps by the river. The famous Glico Man billboard was right at the other side of the bridge. We did walk by that area after but it was too crowded to get a proper photo.
Fukuebisu Namba 福えびす
When we finally got in, we each ordered a type of Okonomiyaki to try out.
We got a side dish – (Doteyaki どて焼き), which was a type of beef tendon dish. Main course came soon after! My favorite was definitely the cheesy bacon one (in the middle)
PS. They have English and Chinese menus available as well.
After a fulfilling meal, we went back to our Airbnb room and instead of resting, took out all our loots and lined them up. Funny story of how Xan said she probably won’t get anything since she’s not into any animes at that moment (as we were both in the western hell) but the moment we stepped in the first building, the display shelves were FULL OF STAR WARS MERCHANDISE! We went a little crazy there. The Sumiko Gurashi items were also pretty cheap there. Another store we went in sold mostly preloved figures and anime merchandise. Whatever JQ and Xan saw of Lightning, they would just bring it to me and I’d just put it in my cart ;;;; I should have checked the price first but… Lightning. Totally sound argument am I right?? To be honest, they were definitely very very pricey for small such small items.
When we went to Kotobukiya, Xan saw a Lightning Returns CD inside a glass case, so we asked the staff the pricing for it. And I thought I heard wrong when they said ¥500 ($4.50USD / 21MYR) but it was really just 500yen! The CD is still selling for 50USD at the Square Enix Store, or at least 27USD without shipping for a used disc on Amazon. That was the best purchase of my trip.
I actually planned on doing Day 2 but this post turned out longer than I expected. So I’ll leave that for another post (soon! I promise).
